How we verify listings

What each check means

• Contact details. Our verifier fetched the business's own website and found the phone number printed there. Re-checked at least every 12 months; older checks show as expired.
• Florida licence. The business prints a licence number on its own website, and Florida DBPR records show that licence as current and active, held under a name that matches the business. Re-checked at least every 90 days. Always confirm on MyFloridaLicense.com before hiring.
• Business identity. A reviewer matched the business to an official registration record. Shown only when done.
• Insurance. Only shown if we independently reviewed insurance documents. We currently have not done this for any listing, so we never claim a business is insured.

There is no general “verified business” badge. A check is not an endorsement, a guarantee of quality or a recommendation.

Licensed trades

Air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pool construction, permitted construction, mold remediation, pest control, moving and locksmith work need a licence in Florida or in the county. A listing in those services is published only after the matching licence is verified. Pest control (FDACS), movers (FDACS) and county locksmith licences are checked by hand by a reviewer.

Ranking

Results are ordered by how well a business matches the service and the area you searched, then by how much we were able to verify. We do not use ratings, reviews, popularity or payment. Sponsored placements, if we ever show them, are always labelled and kept separate from these results.

What we never do

• Invent businesses, reviews, ratings, testimonials, licences, hours or phone numbers.
• Copy data from review sites or map platforms.
• Publish home addresses or personal phone numbers, even when they appear in a public record.
• Write marketing claims for a business.

Data sources

• Businesses' own websites. Facts as published by each business on its own website (name, phone, services, service area); short verbatim quotes kept as evidence; every listing links to the source. Discovered by researchers via web search; every fact re-fetched by scripts/ingest/verify-websites.ts (robots.txt honoured). No aggregator or review platform data.
• Florida DBPR licensee data. Public record (Ch. 119, F.S.), free bulk download published by DBPR. Used only to verify licence numbers printed on businesses' own websites (type, status, expiry). DBPR addresses and licensee personal names are not published. Source
• US Census Bureau. City, town, village and community boundaries by county and ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (2020). Public domain. ZIP areas are approximations, not city limits.

Corrections and removal

Every profile has a “Report incorrect information” form, including removal requests. Businesses can also claim a listing. We never hand over control of a listing on a form alone.
